Directions
This is a cookie bar variant of the traditional Austrian delicacy, Linzer torte. a lattice top and nutty dough with preserves. An exquisite confection for the holidays.

Turn the oven on to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Butter a 7 x 11-inch baking dish. |

In a medium-sized bowl, cream butter and sugar using an electric mixer. Stir in egg and zest of lemon. |

In a second bowl, stir together flour, ground almonds, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet components gradually. The dough will be tough and might require manual kneading to bring it together. |

Split the dough in half. Place one half into the pan that has been prepared. Transfer the leftover half onto a surface dusted with flour and use your hands to form it into a long rope with a diameter of 1/2 inch. |

Cover the dough in the pan with jam. Dough rope should be cut into lengths and placed in a lattice design across the jam. |
